Dog Movies
The primary purpose of this website is to give dog lovers a directory of all of the movies that have either their favorite breed(s) or dogs in general. I am listing all movies that I can find that either 1) has a dog as a major character in the movie, whether mixed breed or purebred and 2) movies the have a purebred dog in it, even if just a glimpse. If you know of any movies not listed that match the criteria, or an additional breed that I don't have listed in an already-listed movie, please e-mail me! Again, the primary purpose is to have a complete directory of dog related videos, and I'd like it to be as complete as possible.
Big thanks to Dan Condon for his invaluable help with most of the old German Shepherd movies. Please visit his site at http://home.attbi.com/~buggartt/
These results have come from many different sources. I cannot guarantee the accuracy of these results. I try very hard to keep the facts as accurate as possible, but this is not always possible. In order to present the most accurate results possible, I have italicized all movies that I personally have not been able to review and confirm. Movies that are italicized are most probably accurate, I just cannot personally confirm it, but many people can and have. To the best of my knowledge, all of the breeds/movies are accurate. That is my disclaimer. There is no reason that they should be wrong, I just personally cannot guarantee that all the facts are right for movies that are italicized.
I advise caution in your movie choices. I do not link to movies with offensive covers. As much as possible, after each video I will list the rating. For people who want to know why a movie is rated R or PG-13 (or other) please check out Family Style Movie Guide. I do not endorse or support any of their reviews. However I personally have found it to be useful in the past.
To look for a certain breed, you should be able to go to the 'Edit' menu at the top of your browser. Then go to "Find" and type in the breed that you are looking for. Keep in mind that sometimes the breeds are in plural. So you may want to do a search for "Husky" and then for "Huskies". Enjoy!

Madeline which has a retriever dog in it that I can't tell if it is a Labrador or Golden Retriever. It has that whitish yellow coat that isn't really acceptable (show wise) for either breed. The coat length seems to be between lengths. Every other time I look at it looks like the other breed. To me it looks slightly more like a Lab, but I think they call it a Golden, just once and briefly, in the movie. If they were trying to make it like the book, and the book had a Golden, that would be good reason to call a Labrador a Golden Retriever, but then, maybe it is a Golden Retriever. You decide. The Mighty Treve (1937) with possibly a German Shepherd Dog or maybe an Australian Shepherd, hopefully a collie, because it's based after a book by the great Albert Payson Terhune who loved the collie. VHS DVD
February 13, 1937 issue of LIBERTY: "The dog is having his day in Hollywood. Asta stole a personal canine hit in After the Thin Man. And Tuffy, a collie, trots off with the honors of this story of a brave dog who is almost shot as a sheep killer. Dog lover Alfred [sic] Payson Terhune did a sympathetic job with the story. "Who doesn't love a dog yarn? Ever since Beautiful Joe, of the '90s, the dog has been a sentimental creature of fiction. And this is a simple and direct story. Not pretentious, just an appealing little picture . . . .
"VITAL STATISTICS: Treve's played by the mighty canine thespian Tuffy, a four-year-old Australian shepherd raised from a pup by invalid owner Orvedahl to be of service around a South Dakota farm. At one Tuffy showed remarkable signs of being headed for Hollywood, for he could by request go out into the fields and all by his lonesome bring in the Orvedahl sorrel mare or the Orvedahl black horse. Now owner Orvedahl can sit in a room and order Tuffy to bring any one of forty-five different objects, from a hammer to a broom to the paper to the whisky bottle, and unlike your pooch or mine, Tuffy'll hunt around until he finds 'em. However, Tuffy's main screen ability is to act like a dog and not a Houdini--but he'll also put out your ciggie matches for you without command just before they burn your fingers. Tuffy's unspoiled: gets one hundred dollars a day; disdains a stand-in or double; has one brown eye, one blue . . . ." (Big thanks to Krissy and Donna McKoy for her info on this movie)

Wishbone is that cute Jack Russell Terrier on PBS who teaches kids about
literature in a dreamed up world as the star of a book, and then back home as he
helps his owners solve their problems. I enjoy the show, if only for the dog,
but the show isn't that bad either.

Fun Videos
Test Your Dog's I.Q. These types of books and videos are fun, and I've never seen this one, but I think generally they are not very accurate. In one test, a dog who didn't bark at strangers, for example, was given a low score, although it didn't reflect the fact that maybe his breed had absolutely no territorial instincts. Breeds are so different and bred for so many different things, and individual dogs are so different, that I don't feel they are very reliable... Let all your friends know this if your dog does poorly and hide this info if your dog is a "genius". :-)
